Tungsten Scrap

Tungsten scrap,Tungsten carbide or in turkish referred to as ‘volfram’, It is found in mines containing tungsten, wolframite and scheelite, which is one of the transition metals of very hard, heavy, steel, gray or white color.

Tungsten, also known as tungsten, atomic number  74,atomic weight 183.85 and denoted by the chemical sybmol W (L.wolframium),density of 19.3g/cm ³,a chemical element that melts at 3482°C.Its is found in mines containing, tungsten, wolframite and scheelite, which is one of the transtion metals of very hard, heavy, steel, gray or white color.Tungsten is an important material with a solid physical structure and a high melting temperature among non-alloy materials. It is used in some electronic applications in its pure form, but mostly as a compound or alloy,in equipment requiring material strength in applications such as processing other metals or mining, It is used in lamp wires of light bulbs,X-ray devices and space technology high-performance alloys.

Although its name comes from the word group ‘tungsten’ meaning heavy stone in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian, ‘Wolfram’ is used for this element in these three countries. Wolfram is used in electronic applications.

In addition, tungsten substance is the thin film in the glass that combines with vanadium dioxide to reduce our feeling of the heat of the sun in our home.

What is Tungsten Carbride Scrap?

Tungsten was discovered in 1781 by a Swiss chemist  K.V.  Scheele. In 1783, tungsten in powder form could be obtained by reduction of tungstic trioxide from wolframite and tungstic acid with carbon.Tungsten may have been a metal of technological importance some a century after its discocery.

Although it was observed in the 1850s that tungsten could affect the properties of steel, Its use in steel production took place in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tungsten production is made in only a few countries in the world.Since these countries are generally not consumer countries, its is important to secure the supply and demand of production. Therefore, tungsten should be a strategic material.

Tungsten carbide is a multi-set metal of dull silver color, with the highest melting point of pure metals.W for which the element takes the symbol,W,also known as Wramram, tungsten is more resistant to breakage than diamond and is stronger than steel. Ideal for many commercial and industrial applications, Tungsten carbide steel is the metal’s unique properties,it has the strenght and durability to withstand high temperatures.Tungsten is an important substance with solid physical structure and high melting temperature among non-alloying materials. It is not found in nature in metallic form.

It is obtained as a by-product during the processing of copper and tungsten.

Tungsten Carbide Recyling

How to recycle tungsten scrap, which is indispensable for industrial production.Tungsten scrap is usually available in very small quantities on the market. This is because it is multi-purpose and long-lasting.Tungsten recycling takes place through a long and tedious procedure.

What are the Usage Areas of Tungsten(Wolfram)?

Metallic molybdenum is usually obtained by melting molybdenum powder obtained by hydrogen reduction of molybdenum oxide or ammonium molybdate. Abrasives used to make carbides wear resistant, used in the production of tungsten, hard materials. Areas of current tungsten consumption are cutters, knife, drills, circular saw, milling and lathe metalworking.

Tungsten carbide metal can be combined with other metals to increase their strength and resistance against wear and corrosion, and it is used as a multifunctional by producing different materials. Some steel alloys usually contain carbide steel, which is why skin resistance is high. It is used in cutting and processing machines such as many high-speed steel saws, steel blades, drill bits and drilling tools, with a mixing ratio of approximately 18% tungsten.

Tungsten carbide steel alloys are also used in the production of rocket engine nodules due to their high temperature resistance properties. Other tungsten alloys are also used in bearings and pistons due to their durability and resistance to wear.

Tungsten is the metal with the highest melting point. The fact that the melting point is usually very high makes it necessary to produce this metal by hydrometallurgical methods instead of pyrometallurgical methods. The first patent for the production of sodium tungstic and tungstate acid was taken by Robert Oxland in England in 1847.

Tungsten is among the most suitable materials used for applications in industry and commerce. The melting point of tungsten is 6192°F or 3422°C. In 1910 C.M. Johnson developed the high-grade scheelite using the tungstic acid method by dissolving it in an acidic medium. The most common uses of tungsten are the tips of cutting and etching tools and light bulb filaments. Generally, the most common usage area is its use in compound and alloy form.
